The members of the BWWC steering committee are looking forward to reading all the great proposals we’ve already gotten, and we are excited to get more by January 5th!
And you should be getting excited about the opportunity to visit NYC! While you’re here, you will have the opportunity to access some of the city’s best cultural resources on our tour of the New York Public Library’s Berg Collection, which houses a large number of manuscripts by English and American writers, and the Pforzheimer Collection, which houses manuscripts by Percy Bysshe Shelley and members of his circle.
In addition to works by Mary Shelley and Mary Wollstonecraft, the Pforzheimer Collection also contains many manuscripts by lesser-known British women writers of the early nineteenth century, and manuals on child-rearing and domestic economy.
There will also be lots of other opportunities for cultural enrichment and just plain fun in NYC this summer! These include Shakespeare in the Park, many free outdoor movie screenings, and the beautiful weather (great for picnicking and exploring the city on foot!).
Of course the main event, as always at BWWC, will be the conference itself, which brings together an incredible group of scholars in a collegial atmosphere, and gives them the opportunity to share ideas and meet new people!
We hope you’ll join us in NYC this summer, so don’t forget to submit your proposals!
