Hope everyone is excited about attending the conference in a little over a week! We on the conference committee are looking forward to hearing insightful papers and meeting the great group of scholars who will be participating!
We also wanted to remind everyone about the cultural events we have planned, including our trips to the New York Public Library’s Berg Collection, which will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 on Wednesday, June 24 (before the conference begins) and to the NYPL’s Pforzheimer Collection, from 4-6 on Friday the 26th.
The Berg Collection houses a large number of manuscripts by English and American writers, with particularly strong holdings from 1820 to 1970. Highlights of this collection include the papers of Frances Burney, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Virginia Woolf.
The Pforzheimer Collection houses manuscripts by Percy Bysshe Shelley and members of his circle, including Mary Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft, Claire Clairmont, and Teresa Guiccioli. To contextualize Wollstonecraft’s feminism, the collection contains many contemporary proto-feminist texts, and texts that illuminate women’s lived experiences, such as child-rearing manuals and manuals of domestic economy.
We hope you will all join us for these tours and see the amazing resources New York has to offer scholars of British women writers!
